Back on the c-pap

So Wesley was doing okay on the nasal cannula, but not great. So, we are back on the c-pap. They were rotating the c-pap and the nasal cannula every 6 hours, but then he just had a bad day on Thursday, so they decided to give him some rest and keep him on the c-pap. It doesn't mean he won't go back on the cannula again, but for now, we are giving him a break. He did have a good day today and all his blood work came back good. So maybe next week they will try the cannula again, only time will tell!!!

Master of the C-Pap

They took Wesley off the c-pap this morning!!!! Yay for baby!!! They have not officially ruled out the option of him going back on the c-pap, but they are giving him a "trial" off of it. He seemed to be doing well today. His oxygen saturation was good, and he was responding well to the nose cannula. I was rather shocked that this happened so fast. I talked to the doctor last week, and he said it would probably be a rather slow process from here. When they moved him to the c-pap, he was on a pressure of 7. Ideally, he needed to be on a pressure of 5 to move onto the nose cannula. He said it may be a few weeks before we saw any change to his c-pap settings. Then Saturday they changed it down to a 6, and Sunday they changed it to a 5. Then today he's totally off of it!!! I wasn't expecting anything to happen that soon!!! He's a tough guy, that's for sure. He is weighing in now at 8 lbs 12.8 oz and is 19 in long. It's so nice to finally see his face!!! Enjoy the pictures!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Wesley and I celebrated Valentine's Day together today. I got a few cute pictures. He also got a special Valentine's Day treat. His RT decided it was his turn to get a TV to watch movies. So Wesley saw the Lion King today, not that he will remember any of it, but it was cute. Here are some pictures of today.... enjoy!!!

5 months!!!!

Baby Wesley is 5 months old today. He's getting to be a big boy now (at least compared to the 1 lb 7 oz he was at birth!!!). I get to spend tomorrow with my little Valentine. Who needs flowers when you have the cutest little boy in the world??? I should get some new pictures tomorrow. Right now everything is moving at a slow pace. They are weaning the steroids but keeping the c-pap pressure settings the same. He is down on oxygen percent, usually staying between 30 and 40% compared to the 60% he was on earlier this week. He is not as fussy as he was when they first moved him back to c-pap, but still throws a fit when they give him his breathing treatments. Just continue to keep him in your prayers!!!

Ventilator Free Again!!!

Wesley is off the ventilator again!!! They moved him back onto the c-pap on Friday. As of Saturday they had him off the backup "reminder" breaths on the c-pap. So now it is just a constant pressure coming through his c-pap. We don't know exactly what to expect over the next few weeks, but only time will tell. He seems to be doing well, we are just praying that he continues to progress as he has been over the past month. There is still a chance he may have to have the trach, but if we can avoid that, it would be a blessing.

Update

Wesley has been doing well while healing from his surgeries. Unfortunately, one of the incisions has developed and infection (this seems to be a recurring thing for him). They have started him on antibiotics and are carefully monitoring the incision. He is still on the ventilator from surgery, but the plans are to put him back on c-pap by the end of the week. The pulmonologist saw him today and said that his lungs are sounding better, still far from great, but better. Once again, we are moving in the right direction. They still weigh him daily, but the last stats I have are his weekly stats from Saturday night. He weighed 8 lbs 3 oz and was 19 in long. He is back on feedings now and his stomach seems to be handling them well. Just pray that he will continue to grow and get stronger. He's our little fighter!
