Close to Home....

Wesley has been in the hospital since last Wednesday 8/26. We had to bring him to the doctor for a high grade fever (which topped out at 101.7), and he was not digesting any food. We were not able to give him anything for his fever since it would just sit in his stomach due to the digestive problems. The pediatrician saw him and sent us on to Children's Medical Center to have him further examined. He was sent for x-rays to see if there was a physical blockage, but those all came back clear. They also sent blood and urine samples to see if there was an infection. Those both came back clear as well. Final diagnosis was that he has caught a virus which caused his bowels to shut down and not process his food. In medical terms, he had an ileus. We had to drain his stomach through his Mic-key button for about a week. He started on Pedialyte on Tuesday 09/01, then they started his regular feedings on Wednesday 09/02. He is back up to full feedings now, but they are being given over 2 1/2 hours rather than the 1 hour he normal receives them. He should not be far from coming home now, maybe just another day or 2. He has been really good through all of this. A little fussy, but he's still my little fighter. To make things worse, he is also teething. In the past 2 weeks, he has had 3 teeth (2 bottom, 1 top) break through his gums. I think that bothered him more than his stomach!!! With all of this almost over, we are looking forward to this upcoming weekend.... Wesley's 1st birthday!!! I can't believe its been a year!!! He was up to 19 1/2 lbs, but has lost a little weight since he was off his feedings for a week. Last weight was 18 lbs 12 oz, but I'm sure he'll make it right back up there to 19 1/2 in no time!!!
