Just an update.....
Wesley is home, and I have started back to work. I thought I may have more time once he was home (with the help of the nurses of course), but it seems like I have even less time now!!! Between playing, bath, laundry, cleaning..... so much to do with and for that little guy!!! So here's the current update, and I'll get pictures up soon. Just a quick refresher.... Wesley came home from Our Children's House on Tuesday, June 9, but then ended up at Children's Medical Center that Sunday, June 14. He was going into respiratory distress, and we could not figure out the root cause. He had 2 episodes that Sunday where he literally was turning blue. He was fine throughout Sunday night, but then had another episode on Monday while at the hospital. Luckily that was the last time. He also had an infection on his chest from scar that had already healed from his more recent broviac line. So, during the stay at the hospital, he had his chest wound doctored, more frequent breathing treatments ordered, added a steroid to his breathing treatment medications for 2 weeks, and changed the size of his trach to a pedi size rather than a neo. He came home that Friday, June 19, and we have not had the same problem since. He had his first pediatrician visit on Monday, June 22. Although transporting him is not an easy task, we got him there with all of his emergency equipment. He had to get another round of shots (which he hated) and the doctor said he looks great. His weight was 16 lbs 4 oz and is 24 in long. His mental development appears to be on track for his adjusted age. His physical development is still a little hindered due to his medical equipment. It's hard to practice rolling over and tummy time with all of his tubes. We should be scheduling appointments with the therapists soon so they can come work with him. He did have to go back for a quick visit on Friday, June 26 for a granuloma that was forming at his trach site. They just put some silver nitrate on it, and that should clear it up!!! All of that said, he is doing really well at home. He seems very happy and comfortable. He likes to talk and make cute baby noises. One of the concerns with the trach in the first place was his speech. We were told we would not be able to hear him until the trach was out. Well, he technically has outgrown the trach size that he is in, so air is escaping around the trach allowing the air to pass by the voice box and make sound. The doctor said he was doing well with the air leak, so he is leaving it alone. I was pretty excited about that. We are through with scheduled doctor's appointments until the end of July, so we have time to enjoy ourselves at home. I should have new pictures up very soon!!!!
