Busy Boy

The summer has started out as a busy one for Wesley. On June 8, Wesley became a big brother to little Ryan Patrick! Then on June 28 he and Dad spent 4 days at Baylor Our Children's Home for observation and a sleep study. Everything went well, and Wesley is officially off the ventilator! His ENT doctor wanted to decannulate this summer, but the pulmonologist said that he is not quite ready for that. Better to be safe and leave the trach in longer. We have a urology appointment on July 14, vent clinic on July 20, GI on August 3, an MRI on August 9, and a bronch scheduled for August 16. Lots to do in the upcoming weeks!!! Most of the appointments are routine visits, but the MRI will be of his brain to rule out any damage. Some of the doctors at Baylor are concerned about Wesley's developmental delays and wanted him to have an MRI on his head to rule out or identify any possible damage that may have occurred in the NICU. The NICU doctors warned us that primarily due to the high amount of oxygen he was receiving along with the steroids and antibiotics he may have some level of brain damage. Only time would tell. He is very responsive and has come a long way in the last year, so I'm hopeful that the results from the MRI will be positive, but we have to be prepared for any result. He has come so far in the past few months, specifically starting when he was able to maintain for extended periods of time off the ventilator. He is still progressing developmentally, but the doctors believe he should be walking and crawling on his own by this point. I will update on that once we get the results from the MRI on August 9. He is now 22 months old and cute as can be!!! We are planning to take him for pictures soon.... I will post those as soon as we get some taken!!!!
